# Bring your own DIDs

At the new user registration stage, Guardian allows to ‘bring your own DID’ (BYO DID) - externally-controlled DID - into the system instead of generating a new DID with Guardian. With BYO DID users will not be required to register the main DID private key with the Guardian instance. These users would be able to select one of the verification methods registered in their DID to be used for the signing of the VC/VP documents linked to their identity.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter:

```
GET https://guardian.hedera.com/guardian/standard-registry/bring-your-own-dids.md?ask=<question>
```

The question should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
